Olympians visits
This year, we are celebrating the Olympics coming to Paris in 2024 through different aspects of school life. One of these being welcoming Olympians to speak at our school.
We first welcomed Thomas Mermillod-Blondin, a skier for the French team who specialises in slalom, giant slalom and combined skiing. He took part in the 2010, 2014 and 2018 winter Olympics. Thomas spoke to our students about the determination and preparation it takes to compete at his sporting level and the teams of other professionals who travel with sportsmen and women to their competitions to ensure everything runs smoothly. Our students were completely blown away by his stories of competing and greatly enjoyed watching him ski in videos of his competitions! Thomas brought along some souvenirs of his time at different competitions including Olympic games to show the students. He left our students with true admiration for his sporting achievements and an excitement for the 2023 ski season to begin!
Our second special guest to share their sporting achievements was Mai-Linh Bui, a World and European medallist in Karate and former EBiHS student! Mai-Linh spoke to our students about how she has to be disciplined in order to maintain her daily training schedule, including getting enough sleep every night and eating the right foods. Students were very interested to learn the type and quantity of foods athletes like Mai-Linh eat in order to be able to train effectively. Furthermore, she discussed how Karate had come naturally to her as a young child, but as she’d got older she realised she would have to work harder to continue to be the best version of herself in competitions.
A true highlight of Mai-Linh’s visit was when she taught the students some basic Karate moves! Her visit has sparked an interest in Karate for many of our students! Many thanks for coming, Mai-Linh Bui!
Stay tuned as we meet more talents from our community throughout the year!
