An Outstanding Journey to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals!

In early June, two teams proudly represented EBIHS and France in an extraordinary adventure at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Iowa. They returned with stars in their eyes, unforgettable memories, and a wonderful human and cultural experience.

We are extremely proud of their performances and their dedication throughout this international competition, which brought together the best teams from around the world.

One team delivered an impressive performance, finishing 20th out of 55 teams from all four corners of the globe — a remarkable achievement that rewards months of creativity, teamwork, and perseverance. The other team brilliantly secured 4th place out of 60 teams, an exceptional result at this level of competition. They also stood out by winning 1st place in the world in the Spontaneous Problem within their category, demonstrating outstanding skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and quick reactivity.

These results are the product of the students’ hard work, their coaches’ invaluable guidance, and the support of their families. The entire EBIHS community warmly congratulates our two teams for carrying the colors of our school and of France so proudly on the international stage.

Congratulations to everyone on this wonderful adventure and these performances, which fill us with immense pride!

Odyssey of the Mind is an international program developed in the USA: a competition centered on creativity and problem-solving for complex challenges. It allows students to:

  • take on challenges,
  • develop and apply the skills needed for teamwork,
  • design and build the elements needed to solve the problem,
  • embrace divergent thinking,
  • develop creativity and perseverance,
  • take part in a competition before a supportive panel of judges,
  • and much more…

As part of this program, participants prepare for a competition by working on a project over several months (from September to March). Each year, 5 problems are proposed, and each team selects one and must devise an entirely original solution.

Students are required to create a story or scenario, build sets, costumes, and props, solve a technical or artistic challenge depending on the problem chosen, and present their solution to the judges, generally within 8 minutes. Style is also taken into account, reflecting how well the team showcases artistic expression and originality in their presentation of the long-term problem.

Finally, there is the Spontaneous Problem: unlike the long-term problem, which is prepared over several months, the spontaneous problem is revealed to the team on the day of the competition. Its purpose is to assess students’ ability to think quickly, cooperate, and demonstrate creativity within a limited amount of time.
