The Kangaroo Math Competition: Our Students Jump High!

Every March, the Kangaroo Math Competition transforms classrooms into a playful arena of reasoning. Born in the 1990s on the model of an Australian contest, this multiple-choice competition features 24 questions of increasing difficulty, held on the same day across all participating schools.

Today, it brings together more than 6 million young people worldwide, including nearly 300,000 students in France — a true international celebration of mathematics, where logic, deduction, and perseverance take center stage.
At EBIHS, taking part in the Kangaroo is about much more than competing: it’s about nurturing a love of reasoning and building confidence in one’s own abilities. This year, our students demonstrated an exceptional level of achievement, from primary school through middle school.

At the primary level, the results are remarkable. A CE2 student placed 3rd nationally out of nearly 28,600 participants. A CM2 student ranked 480th out of more than 38,400 candidates, and a CM1 student placed 1,115th out of more than 33,300.

In secondary school, excellence was equally on display. A 5th-grade student earned 2nd prize nationally, ranking 83rd out of 38,698 participants — an outstanding achievement. In 6th grade, two students placed in the top 2,000 in France. In 8th grade, a student ranked 707th out of more than 14,000 participants.
These results reflect a collective effort. A heartfelt thank you to our teachers, who day in and day out spark their students’ curiosity for mathematics and support them with enthusiasm through challenges like this one.

Congratulations to all participants — every problem solved, every line of reasoning built, is a victory!
