Finding their voice: how our students shine through public speaking

New Era Academy is an England-based organisation that offers graded examinations in communication and performance. Its programmes, including Public Speaking and Speech & Drama, are designed to help students develop confidence, clarity, and creativity in their oral expression while earning recognised qualifications.

At our bilingual collège, 3e and 4e students follow a dedicated module during the first semester in preparation for these exams. This year’s results highlight both their commitment and progress: 3e students achieved an impressive average of 84.5%, while 4e students reached an average of 80%. These outcomes reflect not only their hard work, but also the effectiveness of a structured approach to learning public speaking and performance skills.

The examinations were conducted on-site by an examiner who travelled from London, giving students an authentic and motivating experience. Following the assessments, many students shared positive feedback, noting that they felt well prepared and comfortable during their performance. This sense of readiness is key, as it allows students to approach public speaking with confidence rather than anxiety.

Public speaking is an essential skill that extends far beyond school. It enables students to organise their ideas, communicate persuasively, and engage with an audience. Whether through interpreting a text or delivering a speech, students learn to express themselves with clarity and confidence.

These exams are therefore more than just an academic milestone—they represent a meaningful step in each student’s personal development, helping them build skills that will serve them throughout their education and future careers.
