Our Petite Section students explore the 5 senses at La Maison du Salève!

A few weeks ago, our Petite Section classes hopped on the bus for a magical outdoor adventure at La Maison du Salève. Surrounded by nature, our youngest learners took part in a wonderful five senses workshop.  Through a variety of hands-on activities, they explored sight, touch, hearing, taste, and smell while discovering nature around them.

For touch and sight, the children walked through the forest and guessed hidden objects placed inside mystery bags using their hands and observation skills.

During the listening activity, they listened carefully to different animal and bird sounds and matched each sound to the correct animal.

To explore taste, the children picked different herbs and made their own tisane to taste.

For smell, they collected flower petals and created their own natural perfumes, enjoying the different scents found in nature.

Beyond the fun, the workshop developed a wonderful range of skills: sensory awareness, observation, listening, communication, creativity, and confidence in exploring new experiences — all rooted in the natural world. They also developed their fine and gross motor skills and learned some vocabulary linked to the senses and nature.

And a fun fact to finish: did you know that bees can visit up to 5,000 flowers in a single day while collecting pollen and nectar? Our little ones were amazed — and we think you might be too!

A big thank you to our teachers for organising this enriching outing, and to the team at La Maison du Salève for such a warm welcome.
