Slam and Music in CE1: When Words Come to Life…

An artistic encounter at the heart of the CE1 classes

Before leaving for the winter holidays, the CE1 classes experienced one of the highlights of the school year thanks to a visit from a slam poet, Fafapunk, and a musician, Phil. The student discovered the world of slam, spoken word, and beatboxing through a fun and creative approach.

Discovering the Power of Words

The students were first introduced to slam: a form of spoken poetry that places words, voice, and emotions at the forefront. Using simple themes they chose themselves, they learned to compose short texts and to play with sounds, rhymes, and rhythm.

Daring to Speak, Perform, and Express Themselves
Once their texts were written, the students practised performing them aloud in front of their classmates and the artists. With the guidance of the facilitators, they worked on posture, intonation, eye contact, and self-confidence. For many, speaking in front of the group was a real challenge—one they met with courage and pride.
These moments of oral expression strengthened their speaking skills while also encouraging attentive listening and respect for others’ voices.

Music with the Body: Beatboxing
At the same time, the students discovered beatboxing, a musical practice that involves creating sounds and rhythms using only the mouth and body. This introduction generated great enthusiasm and helped them understand the close connection between rhythm, voice, and poetry.

A Meaningful and Enriching Experience
This artistic workshop was a highly enriching experience for everyone involved. It brought together academic learning and a dynamic artistic practice, while fostering creativity, self-confidence, and the joy of learning.

A big thank you to the visiting artists for their attentiveness, kindness, and their ability to share their passion with the children. This encounter will undoubtedly remain a lasting memory for our CE1 students.
