When CM1 students become reporters and discover the world of media

For over ten years, our school has partnered with Formaprim to introduce students to the tools and practices of the audiovisual and multimedia world. “It is a training organization that has been working in schools across France since 1993 to train and introduce students to new technologies related to the audiovisual and multimedia world” www.formaprim.com.

This year, once again, all CM1 students took part in this immersive week. Split into two groups, they worked in small teams, accompanied by the same instructors throughout the program. Four facilitators who know both the school and the local community well guided the students through their projects with encouragement and high expectations.

Over the course of the week, each group conducted interviews and explored how local organizations operate, including EBIHS middle school! These encounters gave students the opportunity to prepare questions, practice speaking in front of others, and nurture their curiosity.

The activities sparked real enthusiasm, especially creating commercials and exploring the topic of fake news. Working with professional equipment allowed the students to step into the shoes of real journalists, approaching their projects with seriousness, creativity, and critical thinking.

From a pedagogical standpoint, the week also brought some wonderful surprises — such as watching these budding journalists head out into the street to interview passersby. Day by day, their confidence and fluency in speaking grew noticeably.

The final result was presented to families in the form of a real television news broadcast — what a proud moment for the children to share their work with their parents!

A rich and rewarding experience, both fun and demanding, that fully embodies the values of EBIHS: the joy of learning, the courage to step outside one’s comfort zone, imagination, curiosity, and a spirit of hard work.
