Book Week at EBIHS: Celebrating Growth Through Reading

This year marked the 5th annual Book Week at EBIHS le Collège, celebrating the college’s continued commitment to nurturing a strong culture of reading and a genuine appreciation of books. Over the course of a vibrant and engaging week, Book Week once again proved to be a much-anticipated tradition, enjoyed by students across all year groups.

The week began with a lively assembly on Monday, where students were introduced to this year’s theme, “Growth.” They were invited to reflect on the many ways reading supports personal and academic development. Working collaboratively in mixed-grade groups, students shared their ideas and expressed their interpretations through the creation of thoughtful and imaginative haikus.

Throughout the week, the forum was transformed into a true celebration of reading. Inspirational quotes, flying pages, “Guess the Teacher” displays based on favourite books, and photographs of students reading in creative and unexpected locations filled the space. These displays not only enhanced the learning environment but also encouraged students to engage with literature, exchange ideas, and discover new perspectives together.

A lunchtime Book Fair ran daily, offering a welcoming space for both students and teachers to recommend favourite titles and read extracts aloud. The strong attendance and enthusiastic participation reflected our students’ genuine curiosity and love of discovering new books.

Thursday’s programme further enriched the experience with author talks and in-class writing workshops, inspiring students to develop their own creative voices. Reflecting on the enduring power of stories, C. S. Lewis once wrote, “Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” The quote speaks not only to nostalgia, but to growth itself — to the idea that as readers mature, they return to stories with deeper understanding, imagination, and insight. This sentiment perfectly captures the spirit of Book Week at EBIHS—celebrating reading as a lifelong journey of growth, imagination, and understanding.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the students, teachers and guest speakers whose enthusiasm and creativity made this year’s Book Week such a resounding success.
