Earth Week: Kindergarten students make their own recycled paper!

During Earth Week, students in the Beavers and Elephants kindergarten classes took part in a unique, hands-on activity: making their own recycled paper from old newspapers and scrap paper collected in class.

A step-by-step immersion in recycling

Supervised by their teachers, the children discovered that everyday paper waste could be given a second life. The activity took place in several practical stages, allowing them to handle and understand the mechanics of recycling:

  1. Tearing the used paper into small pieces
  2. Mixing it with water to form a pulp
  3. Pouring the pulp into a mold and spreading it evenly
  4. Using a sponge to remove excess water
  5. Leaving it to dry to obtain a sheet of recycled paper

A real team effort, combining curiosity, fine motor skills, and environmental awareness!

Strong educational objectives

Beyond the fun aspect, this activity enabled the children to:

  • Experience the recycling process firsthand
  • Understand that waste can be transformed and reused
  • Discover the role of local authorities in waste management and environmental protection

This project is part of a broader educational approach to sustainability and eco-friendly practices that should be adopted from an early age.

A committed local partnership

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Grand Annecy, which kindly loaned all the equipment needed for this activity. Their initiative to support schools in environmental education is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Well done to our little eco-citizens for their commitment and enthusiasm in this wonderful recycling adventure!
