La maison du Salève : Apple orchard

This term, our students enjoyed a fun and educational trip to the apple orchard at La Maison du Salève. It was a great opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about where our food comes from.

Apple harvesting

Upon arrival, the children were thrilled to dive right into the heart of the activity – apple harvesting. Guided by experts, they learned how to identify edible varieties among the trees in the orchard. Each child had the chance to pick apples directly from the trees, gaining a deeper appreciation for the patience and care needed to harvest fruit.

Juice making

After the harvesting came the fun part – transforming the apples into fresh juice. The children actively participated in every step of the process: from placing the apples into the fruit press, watching as the juice was extracted, to filtering it into a clear, delicious beverage.
Each child left with their very own bottle of freshly pressed apple juice – a sweet and memorable keepsake from the day.

A day of learning

As they explored the orchard and observed the autumn changes, the children gained a deeper understanding of nature’s seasonal cycles and how these impact the food we eat. This experience allowed them to connect with nature in a meaningful way, while also learning about food production.

We look forward to continuing to offer such enriching educational outings that spark curiosity and foster a respect for nature in our students.
