Gemma Simmons

Primary school teacher (native English speaker)

Born in South London to a French mother and an English father, my love for France started at a young age when I spent each summer at my french grandmother’s house. Later when my brother had settled in France I used to join him for skiing and discovering the beauty of the Alps alongside the region and it’s culture.

From 11 to 18 years old, I went to an all girls secondary school where I gained the Alevel grades to study International Business (with French) at the University of Warwick. The 4 year course included a third year abroad which for me was France and more precisely at the Ecole de Management in Lyon.

In September 2008, I started secondary school teacher training in order to teach mathematics to pupils aged 11 to 18. I gained qualified teacher status in June 2009.

I taught Mathematics for 11 years in large secondary schools in South London. Alongside my role as a teacher I have undertaken various leadership roles, most recently mentoring trainee teachers and running the training for newly qualified teachers.

My passion has always been to ensure best practice within the classroom in order for every child to progress and succeed to their best of their abilities.
