Deanna Barnes
I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the north-east of the USA. As a kid, I was always the bookworm, I had a deep love for learning and discovering the world. This love of learning has stuck with me throughout my life, and it has transformed into a passion for education.
After I completed my bachelor’s degree in Pennsylvania, I took on a job as an English teacher in Beijing where I was able to get diverse experience working with kids. During this enriching experience, I expanded my skills and continued to develop a passion for teaching through seeing the students build their confidence as they learned. Once back in the USA, I continued to work in education with students with special needs in elementary schools and preschools in Pennsylvania. In 2017, I obtained a CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults/Certificate of English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages) to continue developing my skills in English education. With a CELTA under my belt, I took the leap to become an assistant teacher in France. I worked as an assistant in several high schools and middle schools in the académie of Amiens and the académie of Grenoble from 2018 to 2021.
I have lived in Haute-Savoie since 2019. My passion for learning extends to the forests that I hike here in Haute-Savoie, I love learning about the wildlife that is always so close. I look forward to sharing this curiosity and passion for nature with the students.
While working with kids, I love to use stories and games to build an excitement about learning and to also develop their curiosity about the world. Through these fun activities, I love to see students working together and developing a social awareness that will serve them throughout their lives.
I am excited to bring my love of reading, art, yoga and nature to the Ecole Bilingue International de Savoie.
